A patchwork bill under review by a legislative committee may finally secure for the New Jersey judiciary the funding it needs to automate case filing and management while at the same time devoting money to legal services for the poor.
Two years ago, Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a measure that would have allowed the courts to raise filing fees to bring in an additional $27.1 million, of which $17 million would be earmarked for an electronic filing system and the rest for Legal Services of New Jersey.
