The New Jersey Supreme Court heard arguments Monday on whether criminal defense lawyers can be made to turn over records detailing the origin of their fee payments while the criminal cases are pending.
The Appellate Division stayed enforcement of subpoenas issued by the state Division of Criminal Justice in 2011 to lawyers for some of 34 defendants charged with racketeering and conspiracy in connection with a $2.2 billion international gambling enterprise.
