Lawyers for central figures in the Bridgegate scandal who are refusing to comply with document subpoenas say the New Jersey Legislative Select Committee on Investigation has the power both to punish them for contempt and to grant them immunity.
In briefs filed Friday in Mercer County Superior Court, attorneys for Gov. Chris Christie’s campaign manager Bill Stepien and former deputy chief of staff Bridget Kelly say the committee’s counsel misstated New Jersey statutory and case law in its brief filed March 17.
