A measure proposed in the New Jersey Senate would weaken the evidentiary privilege that prevents spouses from testify against each other in criminal cases.
The bill, S-1989, would permit testimony by a spouse who was a witness in a case before the marriage or who handled evidence in a way that either changed it or disrupted the chain of custody.
