Long ago, I wrote a novel about the United States competing in the Fédération Internationale de Football Association’s World Cup soccer games at Brazil 2014 (or Brasil 2014, depending on your language preference). So, naturally, I watched the tournament with great interest.

Sadly, perhaps because some of my probably not-as-brilliant-as-I-thought-them-to-be recommendations were not implemented, the U.S. did not win the World Cup. But they did quite well—and it was heartwarming to see them as part of one of the most exciting World Cup tournaments ever.
