Harold P. Cook III, the longtime New Jersey municipal court judge who once presided in four Passaic County towns but was banned from the bench earlier this year for ethics breaches, has filed for bankruptcy.
His Chapter 11 petition, filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newark on Oct. 21, lists more than $10 million in debts, most of it apparently tied to the failed business ventures that landed him in ethics trouble and led to his ouster as a judge.
