Employees and shareholders want to know how their companies are performing financially. Associates also care—or should care—about the financial health of their own law firm.

Therefore, associates should look for opportunities to learn about law firm economics and management, the potential growth of their firm, and anything else the associate believes is relevant to the firm’s vitality. Partners should be amenable to such conversations and be as forthcoming as possible with associates about these issues.
