This past year saw many of the biggest political and public policy issues hashed out in New Jersey’s federal courts, including insurance litigation over Superstorm Sandy, the battle for legalized sports wagering in the state, and the effort to ban gay-conversion therapy for minors.

There also was New Jersey’s most-discussed political story for 2014, the Bridgegate scandal, in which an aide to Gov. Chris Christie and a Port Authority appointee allegedly ordered George Washington Bridge lane closures in retaliation for the decision by a Democratic mayor not to endorse the governor’s reelection.
