Jennifer Borek, a partner at Genova Burns in Newark, is elected as a trustee of Montclair, N.J.-based Partners for Women and Justice, a nonprofit organization that empowers low-income and abused women to build safe and secure futures for themselves and their children by providing equal access to justice. The organization offers legal assistance in domestic violence and family law matters and guidance to promote financial competence and independence. The nine-member council is charged with the legislative governance of the tribe, establishing tribal laws, resolutions and administrative and fiscal policies. While on the council, Jackson will be responsible for coding tribal laws, creating a system for nonnative attorneys to request permission to appear before the tribal courts and advising the principal justice in matters arising in the Tribal Supreme Court. The Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians, the largest American Indian Tribe in New Jersey, are a tribal confederation of the core families of the Nanticoke and Lenni-Lenape whose homelands have been in Southern New Jersey and the Delmarva Peninsula from ancient times.
