A putative class-action suit has been brought over a Jan. 21 fire that destroyed a 408-unit luxury apartment building in Edgewater, N.J., displacing an estimated 1,000 tenants and affecting many people who lived nearby.
Loposky v. AvalonBay Communities was filed in Bergen County Superior Court on Jan. 26, just five days after the blaze, a five-alarm fire that caused no human fatalities but reportedly was so large it could be seen across the Hudson River on the west side of Manhattan and resulted in the declaration of a local state of emergency, closing schools the next day.
