In this world of lightning-fast communication and ubiquitous social media, there still remains a place for professional courtesy and direct personal interaction, especially in the legal profession. Being aware of and following the general rules of business etiquette, appearance, behavior and nonverbal communication is essential to success in professional and social settings.

Every situation has its own etiquette guidelines. Consider elevator etiquette (don’t discuss anything remotely confidential), travel etiquette (make sure you wear socks), dining etiquette (mind your salad and dessert forks) and digital etiquette (what you put in writing stays in writing … forever). Knowing the basic rules of protocol makes it easier to connect with others in varying situations and leaves the lasting impression of a “polished legal professional.”
