The second-highest workplace injury result was a $3.75 million verdict in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey obtained by attorney Marc Wietzke on behalf of a PATH track maintenance worker who was struck in the eye by a metal washer.

Plaintiff James Meals was removing spikes from the rail bed in Hoboken, New Jersey, on Feb. 10, 2011. He placed a metal washer that had been cut in half under the head of each spike, creating a rim that helped give his claw hammer leverage. The washer shot up and struck his eye, rupturing his iris.
