A recent $1.2 million fee suit is just the latest chapter in a lengthier saga that includes an allegedly botched contract in a $24 million real estate deal and accusations of unethical conduct against a New Jersey attorney. And the matter could yield yet more lawsuits against other lawyers and professionals.

Debra Taylor, a lawyer-turned-financial advisor, was hired by the Chernalis family of Franklin Lakes in the real estate transaction, and came to be an investor herself. But the suit, Chernalis v. Taylor, claimed she failed to alert them to an error in the closing documents that meant a windfall for her.
