The 1997 settlement of a nationwide class action claiming agents of Prudential Insurance Co. engaged in fraudulent sales practices did not release the company from liability in a 2014 suit by members of the class, a federal judge in Newark has ruled.

Prudential sought to enjoin class members Wynne Whitman and Stacy Whitman from relitigating issues that were addressed in the class action.
