After a school district that was sued by an ex-student for bullying was granted permission to pursue third-party claims against some of the alleged bullies, the idea of a school district pursuing legal claims against students who misbehave is getting mixed reviews from lawyers.
The Flemington-Raritan Regional School District has gotten a green light to pursue third-party claims against five students who allegedly assaulted or battered the plaintiff, V.B. The Flemington-Raritan and Hunterdon Central school districts sought to bring claims against 11 students who were alleged to have harassed V.B., but Assignment Judge Yolanda Ciccone of Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties dismissed third-party claims against six of the students and against the parents of all 11 students.
