Kick in the Teeth—A man who took a kick to the face during a New Jersey rugby match has been granted a default judgment in his suit against the opponent whose cleat delivered the blow.

Paul M. Smith sued John A. Kroesen in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey over a cleated kick that occurred away from the play in a match between the Jersey Shore Sharks and Old Gaelic Rugby Football Club. The kick “was not the kind of conduct expected to occur during the course of play of an ordinary rugby match,” according to Judge Noel L. Hillman.
