A Jersey City woman who injured her ankle in a fall on the stairs of her apartment building agreed to a $1 million settlement of her Hudson County suit Aug. 14.
In Howard v. Zakhari,Kystal Howard was descending the stairs on July 13, 2013, when she slipped on a loose vinyl tread covering the stairs, according to the suit. She tried to grab the handrail but it was broken and coming off the wall, the suit said. The steps were also about an inch higher than the allowable building code, according to her lawyer, John Scura III.
