Paul Matey, who has been New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s deputy chief counsel since December 2013, is leaving his position to become senior vice president and general counsel of University Hospital in Newark.

Matey, according to a statement released Sept. 4 by the Governor’s Office, will be succeeded by Scott Coffina, who most recently was a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath in Philadelphia. The change is set to become effective Sept. 7, though Coffina has already joined the Christie administration in preparation for Matey’s departure, spokesman Kevin Roberts said.
