New Jersey’s largest public-sector unions have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its appeal of a state Supreme Court decision holding that Gov. Chris Christie is not required to hold fast to a 2011 pension reform law that he pushed for and once touted as a highlight of his administration..

The unions—led by the New Jersey Education Association, the Communications Workers of America and the State Policemen’s Benevolent Association—filed a petition with the Court on Sept. 8 asking it take the case.
