U.S. District Judge Peter Sheridan of the District of New Jersey has recused himself from a wage-and-hour suit in which the law firm representing the defendant also represents members of the judge’s family in a case involving the death of his brother, former Cooper Health System CEO John Sheridan Jr.

Sheridan granted the plaintiffs’ motion Oct. 2 asking him to recuse in Atanassov v. AmSpec Services. The plaintiffs’ lawyer in the case sought Sheridan’s recusal because the firm representing the defendant, Genova Burns of Newark, is also representing members of the judge’s family in a dispute with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Office of the State Medical Examiner over the cause of death of the judge’s brother.
