A New Jersey appeals court has affirmed a nearly $50,000 sanction against a lawyer who was found to have pursued frivolous claims against Atlantic City and two of its police officers in a personal injury case when there was no evidence that the officers were involved in causing the plaintiff’s injuries.

In a published ruling in Sherifi v. Atlantic City, the three-judge Appellate Division panel said Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Nelson Johnson did not abuse his discretion in ordering the sanctions against Linwood solo Jerry Goldhagen and his former client, Brilant Sherifi, totaling $49,944.25.
