A federal judge in Camden has granted class certification in a case claiming Public Storage Inc. required New Jersey renters of storage space to sign contracts that include unlawful limitations on the company’s liability.
Chief U.S. District Judge Jerome Simandle of the District of New Jersey certified a class of Public Storage renters after finding that commonality, predominance and superiority requirements were met by the suit. The judge rejected the defendant’s arguments against certification, which he called a “rehashing” of the same arguments and some of the same case law they cited in their motion to dismiss, which was denied in August 2014.
