Many companies spend a fortune purchasing cyber security products with the hope of keeping hackers out of their networks, only to later fall victim to a social engineering con that tricks an employee into disabling their antivirus and opening a remote connection to their computer.

What Is Social Engineering?

Social engineering, henceforth referred to as SE, is a nontechnical means of intrusion cyber criminals use that relies mostly on human interaction and typically involves tricking the target into breaking normal security procedures. It is one of the greatest threats that organizations encounter today. It is so effective because so many companies do not train their employees how to identify and deal with this kind of attack. As SE deals with psychological manipulation, there is no technological defense against it.
