Attorneys are heavily focused on being able to properly service their clients. That’s a great thing, but what about taking care of the firm? Along with clients having needs and wants the firm also has its own set of requirements. A major issue that exists in many firms is this: What happens when a disaster occurs? In my experience, speaking about disasters is like bringing up an elephant in the room. Yet we have to address how we protect the firm and its data from such events. Additionally, how do we keep the firm’s IT infrastructure up and running so attorneys can continue to work?

Disasters can manifest themselves in many different ways. Two notable natural disasters happened just a few years ago for us in the Northeast: Hurricanes Sandy and Irene. We have dealt with the aftermath of those storms: flooding, loss of physical property, communication issues and power outages plagued us in many areas.
