The estate of a police officer who died after being run off the road by a drunk driver was awarded a $10.08 million jury verdict in an Ocean County suit, Engrassia v. Uzcategui, on Jan. 29, though there are coverage issues going forward.
According to plaintiff attorneys William Kelly and Scott Kenneally, in the early morning hours of Nov. 25, 2010—Thanksgiving Day—Ocean Gate police officer Jason Marles, 32, was traveling north on the Garden State Parkway in Toms River, heading home from a drunk driving patrol, when his car was struck from behind by a car driven by Erick Uzcategui.
