A whistleblower suit by a detective in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office accuses the agency of mishandling and destroying physical evidence from the investigation into the 2014 deaths of Cooper Health System CEO John Sheridan Jr. and his wife Joyce.

Evidence taken from the Sheridans’ Montgomery Township home after the couple’s deaths was improperly collected and was stored in a careless fashion, according to the suit filed in Somerset County Superior Court by Detective Jeffrey Scozzafava. The plaintiff also alleges he saw one of his superiors toss some charred bedding from the Sheridans’ residence into a trash dumpster.
