A New Jersey judge has attempted to provide some guidance to divorced spouses who are seeking to prospectively have their alimony obligations reduced or eliminated pending their retirement.

Ocean County Superior Court Judge Lawrence Jones, in an unpublished opinion, said that, in general, a person seeking to have a change in an alimony obligation may not merely assert that he or she intends to retire at some point in the future.
