A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge has ruled that U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, is immune from claims that he failed to properly supervise a corruption-ridden water agency while serving as mayor of Newark.
Booker’s motion to dismiss claims for breach of fiduciary duty was granted June 21 in a suit seeking to recoup losses incurred by the Newark Watershed Conservation and Development Corporation. Booker, whose served as a member of the agency’s board while he was Newark mayor from 2006-13, was accused by court-appointed trustees of failing to prevent the misappropriation of millions of dollars by the agency’s director and others.
