Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Democrats who control both houses of the state Legislature are battling over whether to make it easier for residents to obtain permission to carry concealed handguns.
Until recently, New Jersey’s regulations regarding the right to carry were among the strictest in the nation. Virtually no one, except retired law enforcement officers and armed security guards, received permission to carry a concealed weapon.
