Prudential Financial Inc. has agreed to a $33 million settlement of a class action on behalf of shareholders who claimed the company misstated its financial condition by failing to fully account for liabilities owed to beneficiaries of policyholders.

The settlement provides an estimated 23 cents per share to class members, who are defined as people who purchased or acquired Prudential common stock between May 5, 2010, and Nov. 4, 2011.
