Leonard Garth, who spent 46 years on the federal bench—and whose former clerks include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and Rutgers Law School co-dean Ronald Chen—died on Sept. 22 at age 95.
“He was my mentor in this profession for 35 years,” said Chen, who clerked for Garth in 1983 and 1984. “There was no finer example of rectitude, judgment, compassion and hard work than Judge Garth, and I’m just going to miss him horribly.”
