The New Jersey Supreme Court has disbarred a lawyer who is currently serving a 27-month stretch in prison for trying to scare real estate investors into hiring him with a bogus claim of a pending criminal tax investigation.

The court disbarred former Metuchen solo Thomas Frey on Sept. 28, and made the order public on Oct. 4. Frey was disbarred two days after an attorney for the Office of Attorney Ethics asked the court in oral arguments to strip Frey of his license.
