A citizen’s complaint charging Gov. Chris Christie with official misconduct in connection with the Bridgegate affair presents a minefield for prosecutors, even after Thursday’s ruling issuing a finding of probable cause in the case, lawyers said.
Bergen County Presiding Municipal Court Judge Roy McGeady found probable cause for the complaint charging Christie with second-degree official misconduct after hearing testimony from Bill Brennan, who presented the complaint, and from attorneys from Alston & Bird in New York, who represented the governor. Brennan based his complaint on testimony by former Christie ally David Wildstein at the Bridgegate trial, claiming Christie was told about the scheme to cause traffic jams in Fort Lee while it was still underway. The Christie administration promised Thursday to appeal McGeady’s decision.
