The lead prosecutor in the Bridgegate criminal trial attempted to cast doubt on the reliability of defendant William Baroni Jr.’s testimony by cross-examining him on his decision to ignore calls for assistance from the mayor of Fort Lee, whose streets were clogged in the wake of George Washington Bridge access lane closures.

As he did on the first day of testimony, Baroni said he did not respond to Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich’s calls about the traffic problems on orders from Bridgegate mastermind David Wildstein, who convinced him that the lane realignments were part of a traffic study.
