A federal judge has denied the New Jersey Democratic State Committee’s request for an injunction against what the organization says are plans by a group called New Jersey Oath Keepers to intimidate minority voters at the polls on Election Day.

The Democratic State Committee said New Jersey Oath Keepers planned to intimidate minority voters on the pretense that they will commit voter fraud if not closely monitored. The Democrats cite instructions to members on the Oath Keepers website to “form up incognito intelligence gathering and crime spotting teams and go out into the public on election day” as evidence the group intends to violate the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871, which provide for damages if two or more persons conspire to prevent citizens from voting.
