A nationwide class action suit was filed in federal court in Newark on behalf of buyers of artificial turf athletic fields that deteriorate prematurely.

FieldTurf USA aggressively marketed its fields by touting a 10-year lifespan despite knowing the product would start deteriorating within a few years of installation, according to the suit, which was filed Wednesday. Municipalities, school districts, public and private colleges and universities relied on FieldTurf’s material misrepresentations and omissions when deciding to install the company’s product at a time when public funding was low, the suit asserts.
