For the New Jersey Supreme Court, 2016 brought a number of ground-breaking rulings and marked the first time in six years that it had a full complement of seven justices.

In April, Republican Gov. Chris Christie and Democratic Senate President Stephen Sweeney agreed to add Walter Timpone, of Morristown’s McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, to the bench. The nomination, which the full Senate confirmed the same month, resolved a feud that began in 2010 when Christie refused to nominate Justice John Wallace Jr. for tenure.
