Retired Bergen County Judge John Conte has returned to the practice of law. He joins Conte Clayton and Austin after serving nearly 25 years as a judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey. The majority of Conte’s time on the bench was spent serving in the Family and Criminal parts. Prior to the state bench, he served 17 years on several municipal court benches and was senior partner at the firm, where his daughter and son, Meryl Conte Clayton and John A. Conte Jr., also practice. Conte returns as of counsel. He will be providing mediation and arbitration services, and counseling clients with estate planning, administration, and transactional law matters. He will also provide consulting services to attorneys in cases involving termination of parental rights, probate, economic issues in family law cases, and general equity matters. Conte graduated college from Seton Hall University and Seton Hall School of Law. Conte Clayton and Austin has offices in Midland Park and Sarasota, Florida.

Retired Judge Jerome St. John Joins Chiesa Shahinian as Of Counsel

Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi in West Orange welcomes former Appellate Division Judge Jerome St. John, who joins the firm as of counsel in its banking and finance practice. St. John brings more than 40 years of experience as an attorney and jurist to advise a broad base of clients ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. St. John was first appointed a judge in New Jersey in 2006, and has spent the last five years as a member of the Appellate Division. During his career in private practice, St. John has advised dozens of large banks and financial institutions, investment banks and public entities on a variety of financings, both domestic and offshore. In addition to representing lenders, he served as counsel to facilitate all forms of business transactions and as an advisor on matters involving corporate authority, project finance and dispute resolution. St. John graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law and began practicing law in 1975. After more than three decades in private practice with New York and New Jersey-based St. John & Wayne LLC, he was appointed by Gov. Jon Corzine as a Superior Court judge in Essex County. After five years in the court’s Criminal and Civil parts, he was named an appellate judge in 2011.
