The New Jersey Council on Local Mandates, which resolves disputes between local governments and the state over unfunded mandates, has dismissed a complaint filed by New Jersey’s county governments that they are being illegally forced to pay for part of the state’s nascent bail-reform system.
The council dismissed the complaint in a 4-3 vote on Wednesday. Acting Chairman Robert Salman said written opinions detailing the reasoning behind the votes will be issued at some point in the near future. Salman said the committee voted immediately because of the ongoing nature of the new bail system, which went into effect Jan. 1.
