The budget submitted by President Trump to Congress would defund Legal Services Corp. LSC provides about $375 million annually so that the poor can be represented in litigation to avoid eviction, to prevent domestic violence, to secure disability and veteran’s benefits, and the like.

Any lawyer who has litigated appreciates the need to know procedural law, evidence rules, cross-examination techniques, research and brief-writing skills, advocacy tactics, and strategy. It is not a sport for the untutored, the inexperienced.
