The Hudson County Bar Association and Foundation observed the 49th annual Law Day celebration May 1, 2017, at the Justice William Brennan Courthouse in Jersey City. A highlight of the ceremony was the conferring of the 2017 Liberty Bell Award on Jack Jay Wind, an attorney with Margulies Wind in Jersey City, recognizing his contribution to a greater understanding of the legal system and bettering the community of justice in Hudson County. The theme of the day was “How the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which encompasses the due process and equal protection clauses, has advanced the rights of all Americans.” Wind has made a difference by exemplifying equality and fairness in administering to both professionals and disadvantaged individuals in the community, the bar said. For the past 28 years he has served as secretary to the New Jersey Supreme Court District VI Ethics Committee, which is responsible for monitoring the professional conduct of Hudson County lawyers. In addition, Wind helped organize, and in 2003 became president of, Northeast New Jersey Legal Services, which provides legal services to indigent litigatns in Hudson, Bergen and Passaic counties.

Seton Hall Law Holds Annual Diversity Banquet

On March 15, 2017, Seton Hall University School of Law held its eighth annual Diversity Banquet at the Best Western Plus Robert Treat Hotel in Newark. The event was hosted by the Seton Hall Law Diversity Council and student organizations. Recognizing those who advance diversity in the New Jersey legal community, the banquet acknowledged Michele C. Meyer-Shipp (Seton Hall Law Class of ’95) of Prudential Financial and Renee L. Davis of Porzio Bromberg & Newman. Those in attendance welcomed keynote speaker and award-winning activist, Linda Sarsour, executive director of the Arab American Association of New York and co-founder of MPOWER Change.
