Prescription drug company Omnicare Inc. agreed to an $8 million settlement this week to end a whistleblower claim that accused it of falsely billing Medicare and Medicaid in 28 states for a different drug than actually dispensed.
The false claims allegedly generated by the scheme ran into the billions of dollars, according to a 66-page lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey in February 2014. The suit was filed under the False Claims Act.
