A West Orange man ended a crime spree on Saturday, Feb. 9, by breaking into the Essex County Hall of Records Building in Newark, rampaging through three floors and scaring a judge before being captured, authorities say.

Court and law enforcement officials say that before being captured, Kenneth Wilson, 41, broke the windows of the double-doorway leading to the chambers of Superior Court Judge Edith Payne, who was working at her desk. Payne pushed the security button that all Essex County judges have in chambers as well as on the bench, says Assistant Trial Court Administrator Michael O’Brien.
