Pro Bono Drops at Top 20 Firms as Sept. 11 Claims, Other Cases Fall Off

Pro bono work at New Jersey's top 20 law firms fell slightly in 2003. The average pro bono score dropped 1.65 percent - the first decline since 1996. Even as the firms bulked up with 81 new lawyers, total pro bono hours were down by 837 - a slight dip to be sure, but standing in sharp contrast to across-the-board hikes in revenues and profits.
