A former employer can be held liable for the negligent misrepresentation of a former employee's work history if the current employer identifies the nature of the inquiry, the past employer unreasonably provides false or inaccurate information, the person providing the information is acting within the scope of his/her employment, the current employer relies on its accuracy, and the plaintiff-employee suffers quantifiable damages proximately caused by the misrepresentation.
