A federal judge in North Carolina recently approved a $137,000 settlement and consent decree in discrimination case brought by the an U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf woman whose former employer refused to re-hire her for filing a claim against the company.
U.S. District Judge Max O. Cogburn Jr. of the Western District of North Carolina approved the Oct. 26 order, which outlined the agreement that Cinergy Entertainment Group pay former employee Naidaisha Gaston $137,000, including back wages and $55,000 for her attorney. The Texas corporation, which operates movie theatres across the country, also agreed to revised anti-discrimination standards and train corporate and regional managers, while posting an employee notice at its Charlotte, North Carolina, location. The company also agreed to an annual Title VII training program featuring and compliance check-ins.
