Office Location: England and Wales
I am a family lawyer supporting UHNW families. I work with clients entering nuptial agreements at the outset of a relationship, continue to advise as families grow and change (for example in instance of inheritance or a liquidity event) and if the relationship breaks down I work with clients to resolve the financial claims and also arrangements for their children. My colleagues in our private client, corporate, immigration and funds teams mean that we offer wrap around care and support our clients holistically.
Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?
Answer: As a family lawyer I stand next to a client and help them through what for many will be their darkest days. To be trusted in such a way is a privilege and often leads to long standing professional relationships which I find most rewarding.
Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?
Answer: Private client work relies on relationships; relationships with clients and the professional advisors they either work with already or you need to introduce them to. Making a connection requires more than just knowing the law.
Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?
Answer: Of course in the wake of the Budget we are seeing international movement of families. That brings with it questions and discussions about how that family will live, and not all of those discussions are comfortable. It is a place where we can help clients
Question : Where is your favourite place to take a peer for a cocktail or coffee?
Answer: My office is in Covent Garden, London, so we we are spoilt for choice. But the NoMad Hotel is a treat. In the summer the courtyard at the Rosewood Hotel is also lovely.
