Professional Biography

Catherine is a partner in Ogier’s Private Wealth team in Guernsey, advising on a variety of non-contentious as well as contentious matters having specialised in dispute resolution for a number of years. A Guernsey Advocate, she advises on a range of private wealth structures including trusts and foundations, working closely with fiduciary service providers and high net worth individuals and families on all aspects relating to the life cycle of private wealth vehicles. Catherine has particular expertise in complex, large scale succession structures and their reorganisation, including the use of PTCs and PTFs and family governance issues, as well as the use of trusts and foundations in commercial ventures. Catherine also advises on regulatory matters and inheritance advice (including wills and probate). Catherine has been described by clients as "super smart" and "excellent", being "commercial, forward-thinking and her attention to detail is second to none. She works very hard to deliver, even on demanding timescales", according to the Chambers UK Guide and Chambers HNW Guide. Catherine is a qualified TEP and a member of the STEP Guernsey Committee. Catherine has been nominated for and has received a number of industry awards and accolades and has been ranked in both Chambers HNW Guide and the Legal 500 UK Guide. She regularly contributes to publications and conferences in Guernsey and internationally.

Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?

Answer: In our line of work, we really get to know our clients and understand their needs. The work is wide ranging and varied with no two days the same. We see the good, the bad and the complex of people's affairs and aim to find solutions to what they need.

Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?

Answer: An ability to breakdown the complex into clear solution driven advice with a real attention to detail.

Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?

Answer: In the fast paced and tech-based world we are operating in, an area I am focusing on is how new wealth generators are dealing with their succession and long-term plans and how technology can help us stay up to speed with our clients and their needs.
