Erin is a senior estate planning lawyer who regularly advises privately held businesses, high net worth individuals and family groups in relation to both estate and business succession planning matters. Erin can also assist clients with matters relating to asset protection, corporate and business structuring, and trusts. Erin works closely with accountants and financial advisers to ensure a holistic and tax-effective approach to all matters. Known for her calm and caring nature combined with her commercial acumen, Erin has a unique ability to assist clients with what are often complex and sensitive issues. In addition to her estate planning expertise, Erin has significant corporate and commercial expertise with more than fourteen years’ experience in private treaty mergers and acquisitions (including private equity transactions), capital raisings and general corporate and commercial advisory. Erin has previously advised clients across a broad range of sectors including retail, manufacturing, engineering, technology and mining.
Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?
Answer: Private client law is a dynamic area of law that affects most of us. I enjoy meeting with clients and assisting them to streamline their succession plan and deal with complex family dynamics.
Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?
Answer: It is important to be personable and able to build trust and rapport with clients. It is also essential that you an be across multiple facets of the law - succession matters can encompass property transactions, taxation and disputes.
Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?
Answer: There is a fundamental shift towards Family Office services with many high-net wealth clients placing emphasis on ensuring they have a functioning family office in place.
