Henry Mander is the global head of Private Wealth at Harneys. He is admitted in Cayman, BVI and Bermuda and relocated to London in Autumn 2024 after 14 years in the Caribbean. Henry has over 20 years experience (onshore and offshore) in complex estate planning solutions for international ultra high net worth families. He has particular expertise in the effective use of trusts to own family businesses, with appropriate allocation of responsibilities between stakeholders. In recent years he has also advised a number of family offices in relation to governance evaluation projects for family offices where the main operating business was in the process of being sold.
Question : What drew you to specialise in private client law/ wealth advisory?
Answer: The combination of old school lawyering, and the fascination of interacting with interesting international families and helping them
Question : For lawyers entering private client law, what are key skills you think are essential?
Answer: The ability understand that no cultures or families are ever the same and the ability to be trusted by people with information which is extremely important to them.
Question : With the evolving landscape of the private client world, what are recent trends or shifts you are excited to explore?
Answer: The new certainty over the taxation of trusts in Brazil (followiing recent legislation) and the explosion of UHNW families there has made it a key jurisdiction for the use of sophisticated offshore structures.
